Artist's Comments

Another flower that I couldn't resist today :) Unfortunately I have yet to identify this one.

Update 1/9/08:
A HUGE thank you to :iconparadigmparadox: I have tracked this down to being a Japanese Anemone a.k.a Windflower

Lovely. Some kind of double poppy maybe? That's what the center reminds me of. I'm used to poppies having 4 petals, but I know they can have 8.

Ok... scratch my first guess, I think it is actually a white Anemone of some sort. It didn't look enough like the poppy family to suit me, so I looked the related Ranunculacae family and found the Anemones

Cool thank you for the pointer. I usually wait a while before posting so I can do some research but I was keen to finally post something :)

I don't usually guess before I am pretty sure either, but it is really interesting how similar those two plant families are in some ways [link] and there is even an Anemone that really looks like a traditional red Poppy [link]

After doing some digging :giggle: I located this one. The common name is Japanese Anemone aka Windflower

You saved me hours of research with that pointer

Ah good... I couldn't narrow it past Anemone without seeing more of the leaves. I'm much better with plants native to my area, but I like to try the challenge no matter what the region.
